AIT's Educational Approach
Learning opportunities you won't find at ANY other high school
At the Academy of Information Technology, we see the emergence of information technology as the educational tool of today and tomorrow. We recognize the importance of digital skills and knowledge as a 21st-century college and employment requirement. We also believe that technology prompts a higher level of engagement of students in the classroom. With these factors in mind, we've created a technology rich learning environment that provides our students with unique educational opportunities they can't get at any other high school in the state. We believe AIT is the perfect stepping-stone to help them reach the college and career of their choice.
AIT is academic, creative and student-centered. It is a school in which every student has equal access and equal opportunity to work with current technologies and applications on a daily basis. Though the curriculum is demanding, it is formulated to work for a broad range of students in an environment in which aptitude and attitude, and not just academic performance is the measuring stick. The curriculum is designed to challenge high achievers and at the same time make high achievers of those who would have performed with disinterest elsewhere.
Project-based learning is a way of life at the Academy of Information Technology. It is a hands-on approach that students particularly enjoy.
Students work in teams to research, design, produce and market a product. It could be an invention, a music CD, a dream home, an animated movie, or anything else their imaginations conceive. Project-based learning is used in all subject areas at AIT, and it truly brings the educational experience to life. It emphasizes the value of teamwork as well as analytical and problem-solving skills.
In addition to team projects, AIT brings "real world" experiences into the classroom through guest lectures and internships. Students have the chance to hear and interact with professionals in a variety of fields.
Many of these men and women serve as mentors through our Internship Program. Here students can experience a career first-hand and learn from successful and skillful individuals. This wonderful opportunity can help them gauge their level of interest in a particular career.
In forward thinking fashion, AIT also offers an on-site college credit program. Students can earn college credit while still in high school and save tuition dollars! During their junior year, they can enroll in college-level courses, all of which are taught at the AIT, free of charge. Through a special partnership with Norwalk Community College, students can earn a high school/Associate's college degree in only five years. It's just another example of the creative and valuable opportunities that AIT provides to its students.
