About the Academy of Information Technology

What makes this high school different...AND BETTER!

The Academy of Information Technology offers a technology-based high school education that gives students a distinct advantage in today's job market. More importantly, AIT is a stepping-stone to higher education that helps students gain admittance to competitive colleges. At AIT, we broaden the traditional high school education by adding innovative technology training, industry certification, project-based learning, college credit and paid corporate internships to a strong college prep. curriculum. As a result, our students are not only better prepared for the next level, they actually experience it!

At the Academy of Information Technology, students are taught in an exciting and dynamic atmosphere that is unlike any other high school in Connecticut. Imagine a state-of-the-art wireless learning environment, computers with flat screen monitors on every desk, small class size, personal attention from enthusiastic teachers, and course content that motivates and inspires. Classes in web design, desktop publishing, digital music, architecture, engineering, animation and more help students keep pace with the emerging technologies in today's world.

All of this will soon be even better when we open our new 50,000-square-foot, three-story facility on Stamford Connecticut's Rippowam campus in the fall of 2006. The state recently approved the funding for this remarkable structure at a cost of nearly $32 million. In the new building, our focus and vision for the school will remain the same - a small learning community with personal attention and a technology rich curriculum. Enrollment will grow from the current number of 275 to a maximum of 650, still less than 40% of the enrollment of most traditional public high schools. Research has shown that a smaller learning environment like the one AIT offers results in improved grades and greater knowledge retention.

The combination of technology and project-based learning at the Academy of Information Technology makes school fun and challenging. Teachers become true mentors, and students learn the benefit of the teamwork philosophy - an approach they'll surely employ in their future workplace. Throughout this approach, the elements of planning and critical thinking are used to achieve a desired objective. The resulting sense of accomplishment is shared equally and truly rewarding for everyone involved.

At AIT, we strive to develop each student academically, socially and personally. A full range of honors and advance placement courses means that students will always be challenged. AIT creates a supportive family-like environment that brings out the best in everyone. There is a greater sense of student belonging, fewer discipline problems and increased attendance and graduation rates. As students develop in this atmosphere, their self-confidence soars! We have an ethnically diverse student body drawing from Stamford and neighboring school districts including Dairen, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk and Ridgefield. The AIT offers intramural sports, plus students are eligible to play any varsity sport at their zoned school.

Both students and parents agree, the AIT is a one-of-a-kind educational experience providing benefits that will last a lifetime.
